Quarteto 1994 **** (Ernst Mahle) Quarteto 1994 (1994-95) – A obra tem três movimentos: 1) Moderato - com forma ABA e uma textura densa construida com a combinação de um paralelismo, quase sempre entre baixos 1-2 e 3-4; 2) Andante – com forma livre, apesar de apresentar, como o primeiro movimento, algumas idéias de paralelismo, além de passagens homofonicas; e 3) Allegro – com forma ABC, é iniciado em forma de fuga, apresenta a idéia de paralelismo na sessão do meio e retorna a fuga para concluir. O registro agudo é explorado com ênfase no baixo 1. O registro médio-agudo é mantido nos baixos 2 e 3, ficando o baixo quatro com o região mais grave, apesar deste também executar passagens em registro médio, por vezes em frases destacadas. O quarteto foi dedicado aos contrabaixistas Antonio Arzolla, Fausto Borem, Sandor Molnar e Sandrino Santoro, que fizeram a estréia mundial da obra em 4/out/1995 no Rio de Janeiro. A estréia norte americana do quarteto foi na University of Iowa, em outubro de 1997, pelas contrabaixistas Sonia Ray, Julia Holst, Lis Hopp e Jeanette Welch. Quartet
1994 (1994-95) – The works is presented in three movements:
1) Moderato, which has an ABA form with a dense texture built by developing
paired lines (generally basses 1-2 and 3-4); 2) Andante, which has a
free form but, like the first movement, presents some pair development
ideas besides some homophonic passages; and 3) Allegro, which starts
with a fugue, goes back to the pairs idea in its middle section and
returns to the fugue in its last section. The extremely high register
is used mostly in first bass part. Basses two and three stay mostly
around the middle to high register and the fourth bass explores middle
to low register,as usual, though it has a passages in higher registers
and a few solo lines. Mahle dedicated the work to Professors Antonio
Arzolla, Fausto Borem, Sandor Molnar and Sandrino Santoro, who performed
the world premiere of the work on Oct/04/1995 in Rio de Janeiro. The
North American premiere of the whole work was performed at the University
of Iowa by Sonia Ray, Julia Holst, Lis Hopp and Jeanette Welch, in October
1997.
